Touring with the nicest UK family last week we heard a lot of Uhhs and Wows.

There is quite nothing like a still, frosty day with the low winter sun on the horizon, for touring the Golden Circle in deep winter.

We started the day with a visit to the Laxnes horse farm in the early morning while the Arctic night was still prevailing. Then we walked in the footsteps of Game of Thrones characters at Thingvellir national park (“The Bloody Gate“) and saw the half-frozen Öxarárfoss waterfall. Following the Thingvellir visit, we sat down to a lunch in the delightful geothermal greenhouse Fridheimar and enjoyed their great tomato soup and home-made bread.

When we came to Gullfoss falls in the afternoon, the sun was shining straight into the cascading water creating a marvellous display in this beautiful canyon. Our guests who travel the world told us this was one of the most splendid nature display they had ever seen!

By the time we came to Geysir hot springs it was starting to get dark and we had the Strokkur hot spring all for ourselves admiring the hot-spring explosions.
