HOTEL EGILSEN

WEST

Heritage house in a picturesque village

The building housing the hotel was a work of a local prominent figure, Egill Egilsson. Buit 150 years ago and completely renovated and transformed into a charming small, boutique hotel in 2012. The distinctive red building is situated next to the harbour in the quaint fishing village of Stykkisholmur by the Breiðafjördur bay.

The building’s classic heritage has been preserved but cleverly fused with some contemporary elements throughout creating the perfect balance between old and new. The lounge is the heart of the hotel and entices guests to delve into one of the many books from the library or have a drink and mingle with locals or other guests.

The 10 bedrooms are spread across 3 floors and even though quite smallish is size, you quickly forget that when the bright and cozy charm embraces you. Amenities include: Bathrobes, hair dryer, wool blankets by Vík Prjónsdóttir design, L’Occitane products, iPad, COCO-MAT beds, down duvets and organic bedding, bathroom with overhead power shower and free wi-fi.

WHAT WE LIKE:

  • Exemplary restoration of the old house.
  • Nice and short walk to the port to enjoy views from the cape.
  • Cozy atmosphere in rooms and lobby.
  • Fine restaurant next door.
  • Hotel’s web-site.

WORDS FROM A GUEST:

“Everything flawless! Interior design very warm and cozy. Breakfast healthy and perfect! Rooms smaller than usual, but size doesn’t matter because this is a very old building with amazing interior. Fab restaurant across the street.”
