Why do we love Hotel Búdir? Among many things, because the location is fantastic. You have the beach which is a curious blend of black lava, green grass and white sand (not many beaches in Iceland have white sand, you find mostly black sand beaches). When you turn around you have the mystical Snæfellsnes glacier and the mountain range where small streams come tumbling down just to make the picture perfect.
You can easily spend two or more days exploring the region and having Búdir as your idillic base. Maybe call a good friend of ours who lives close by and does marvellous day tours for our guests. Places we specially like and are just short drive from Búdir, include the short coastal trail between villages Arnarstapi and Hellnar along with exploring the picturesque rocky beach around Hellnar, Lónshamrar sea stacks, Dritvík black sand and pebbles beach and to name just one more, the lighthouse by Svörtuloft sea cliffs.
Búdir is one of our favourite places to be at in the winter-time when the Northern lights come out to play. You just have to step outside and you have the dark Arctic night in front of you and then … the greatest show on earth!
After a good day of hiking and exploring its great to come back to Búdir, relax at the lovely bar which offers stunning views as well. The icing on the cake is of course the restaurant, which has a reputation of serving up some of the best fish dishes you can have. Bon appétit!
