Why we love Westman Islands so much.

Heimaklettur rock in Vestmannaeyjar islands

Staying over-night in the Westman Islands is something we have suggested and successfully executed for many clients, much to their delight. So what is so special about this archipelago with one main habited island, Heimaey?
Firstly, the ferry ride takes only 30 minutes and the arrival to the islands is so impressive; the bird-life, the sea stacks and the high rising sea cliffs adorning Heimaey. The island got a real blow in 1973 when an impromptu eruption started next to the village. Five months later, one-third of the village had disappeared under lava. But, the villagers came back to rebuild the nice little town and today the new volcano, Eldfell is one of the main attraction on the island. Most people can walk up to the top of the volcano, enjoy the view and feel the still-hot spots on the volcano. Once down again, the Eldheimar award-winning exhibition gives you a great perspective of the volcanic activity. There are few very good restaurants in the town, our favourite is the Slippurinn and our choice of a hotel will always be Hotel Vestmannaeyjar. Two things to look forward to after a rewarding day, hiking and sightseeing on the island. Oh, did we mention, this is the biggest nesting ground in the world of the adorable puffins! The only problem we have is that the season is short because of the ferry service May-September.
